B-Enabled Outreach Support

Let's Enable and Empower Children and Young People!

Barnardo’s B-Enabled Outreach supports children and young people who are not currently accessing full time education.

Our outreach service aims to bridge the gap between formal education and community engagement by providing tailored programmes and resources to young people with the aim of working towards reintegration into an educational setting.

Our specialist team provides tailored programmes and resources, carefully adapted to meet individual needs and delivered in a variety of settings. We work with children and young people who are:

  • On part-time timetables
  • At risk of becoming non-attenders at school or college
  • High likelihood of becoming home educated or EOTAS
  • Experiencing significant challenges that impact their ability to engage with formal education

We specialise in supporting:

  • Children and young people with complex disabilities and/or Special Educational Needs (SEND)
  • Those with medical needs
  • Young people who have experienced trauma or significant life events
  • Children and young people experiencing anxiety or attachment difficulties
  • Children and young people with social and emotional needs

We support children and young people to help them understand, recognise and regulate their emotions, develop social skills, give opportunities to increase independence and life skills.

We are a registered centre for the AQA Unit Award Scheme which provides young people with the opportunity to gain recognition for their achievements through completing small, manageable units of work. During sessions, we will work towards these units step by step, focusing on practical tasks and learning experiences that match the young person’s interests and abilities. This structured yet flexible approach allows them to experience success regularly, which helps build a sense of progress and achievement. For many young people, this recognition encourages a more positive attitude towards learning and motivates them to engage further in their education and personal development.

We provide a high level of support and interaction throughout the sessions and tailor support to the individuals needs in consultation with parents/carers, the young person, educational setting, and other professionals involved. The support is flexible through 1:1, 2:1 or in small groups and is delivered in person in the home or school, out in the community or can be undertaken virtually.

Barnardo’s DSI Service is CQC registered and can undertake personal and intimate care if a child or young person requires this.
